How to use plus addressing in TaxDome for signatures and contacts
Plus addressing is a simple way to create variations of your email address without setting up a new inbox. It’s a convenient and flexible tool that can be used in multiple scenarios. This guide will walk you through how to use plus addressing and its main use cases.
How plus addressing works
Plus addressing allows you to add a + sign and a word or number after the main part of your email address, before the @ symbol. For example:
Emails sent to a plus address will still arrive in your main inbox (e.g., johndoe@gmail.com or johndoe@outlook.com ).
In Taxdome, you can use plus addressing to:
- Share a unique email with multiple parties without creating new accounts
- Collect multiple signatures for a joint return with a single email
Supported email providers
- Gmail and Outlook: Fully supported; plus addressing works as described.
- Yahoo: Plus addressing is not officially supported, but users can enable Yahoo’s disposable address feature to create an alias (e.g., test+spouse@yahoo.com ). Emails sent to this alias will go to the same inbox, similar to a +1 address, but the alias must be created manually. Learn how to create it in Yahoo’s help article .
- Other providers: Plus addressing may not be fully supported by other email providers. We suggest contacting your provider for confirmation.

If clients are not receiving emails sent to a plus address, the most reliable workaround is to use a unique email address.Use plus addressing for requesting e-signatures for joint returns
If a client has only one email but you need multiple signatures—for example, if only one spouse has an email address but both need to sign a joint return—plus addressing is a quick solution. Follow the instructions below:
-
Click Add signer when filling out the e-signature for a joint return and select New signer.
-
Specify the email for the second spouse with +1 before the @ symbol. Example: johndoe+1@gmail.com
-
Click Confirm.
Both signature requests for the joint return will go to the same inbox, making it fast and easy for both spouses to complete their signatures.
If your clients need step-by-step instructions on signing jointly with one email, see the guide and video in our client help center article .
Use plus addressing to manage multiple contacts
You can use plus addressing to add multiple contacts who share the same email in TaxDome. To do this:
-
Open the account where you want to add additional contacts.
-
In the Info tab, click Create in the Contacts section.
-
Enter the email you would like to use and add +1 before the @. Example: If the email is john@example.com , enter it as john+1@example.com .
-
TaxDome will treat john+1@example.com as unique, but emails will still be delivered to the main inbox.
-
For a third contact, use john+2@example.com , and repeat the process for any additional contacts, incrementing the number after the + for each new entry.
